Frequently Asked Questions

Craniosacral therapy may be unfamiliar to many clients, and you likely have questions about what to expect, how it works, and whether it’s right for you. This FAQ section is designed to provide clear answers and help you feel informed and comfortable before your first session.

What is craniosacral therapy (CST)?

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, hands-on approach that supports the body’s natural ability to release tension and restore balance. It focuses on the craniosacral system—the membranes and fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord—and how it affects overall health and well-being.

2

What can I expect during a session?

Sessions are calm, quiet, and fully clothed. You will typically lie on a massage table while the therapist uses light touch to assess and support the flow of cerebrospinal fluid and the nervous system’s balance. Many clients describe the experience as deeply relaxing, sometimes even meditative.

3

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies depending on your goals, overall health, and response to therapy. Some clients feel noticeable benefits after just one session, while others may schedule multiple sessions over several weeks or months.

4

What should I wear?

Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing is recommended. You will remain fully clothed throughout the session.

5

Is it appropriate to tip for a session?

Tipping isn’t accepted. Just as you wouldn’t tip a doctor, dentist, or other licensed healthcare professional, payment for sessions covers all services provided.

6

How is craniosacral therapy different from massage therapy?

Unlike massage, CST uses very light touch and focuses on subtle movements in the craniosacral system rather than deep muscle manipulation. While your therapist has a clinical background in occupational therapy, CST sessions are specifically focused on the craniosacral approach and are not a substitute for occupational, physical, or medical therapy.

7

Will I feel immediate results?

Some clients notice relaxation or tension release right away, while others may experience gradual changes over several sessions. Every body responds differently, and benefits often continue to unfold after the session.

8

Is there anyone who shouldn’t receive craniosacral therapy?

Craniosacral therapy is very gentle and safe for most people, but there are a few situations where it may not be appropriate. Prior to your first session, the therapist will reach out to gather information about your medical history to ensure that craniosacral therapy is safe and appropriate for you.
