Frequently Asked Questions

Reiki may be a new or unfamiliar experience for many clients, and it’s natural to have questions about what a session feels like, how it works, and whether it’s a good fit for you. This FAQ section is designed to offer clear, straightforward information so you can feel informed, comfortable, and confident before scheduling your first session.

What is Reiki Therapy?

Reiki is a hands-on, non-invasive energy approach that supports the body’s natural ability to restore balance and relaxation. It works with the body’s subtle energy system to help create a sense of calm and well-being.

Daily stress, tension, and emotional or physical fatigue can disrupt your body’s natural flow of energy. During a Reiki session, practitioners use gentle touch or light hand placement to encourage relaxation and support the body’s capacity for self-regulation.

Reiki is commonly sought out by individuals experiencing:

  • Stress or tension

  • Fatigue or low energy

  • Difficulty relaxing

  • Emotional overwhelm

  • General wellness and balance

Reiki is not a replacement for medical care but may be used as a complementary approach to support overall well-being.

2

What can I expect during a session?

Sessions are calm, quiet, and fully clothed. You will typically lie on a massage table or comfortable surface while the practitioner gently places their hands on or just above your body. Many clients describe Reiki as deeply relaxing, often creating a sense of calm, balance, and meditative ease.

3

How many sessions will I need?

The number of Reiki sessions depends on your individual goals, energy needs, and how your body responds. Some clients notice a sense of relaxation and balance after a single session, while others choose to schedule multiple sessions over time to support ongoing well-being.

4

What should I wear?

Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing is recommended. You will remain fully clothed throughout the session.

5

Is it appropriate to tip for a session?

Tipping isn’t accepted. Just as you wouldn’t tip a doctor, dentist, or other licensed healthcare professional, payment for sessions covers all services provided.

6

How is Reiki therapy different from massage therapy?

Unlike massage, Reiki does not involve muscle manipulation or deep tissue work. Sessions use gentle hand placement, either on or just above the body, to support the natural flow of energy and promote relaxation. While your practitioner may have a background in occupational therapy, Reiki sessions are specifically focused on energy-based support and are not a substitute for occupational, physical, or medical therapy.

7

Will I feel immediate results?

Some clients feel a sense of calm or balance immediately after a session, while others notice gradual shifts over time. Every person’s experience is unique, and the effects of Reiki often continue to unfold in the hours or days following a session.

8

Is there anyone who shouldn’t receive Reiki therapy?

Reiki is gentle and safe for most people, but there are a few situations where it may not be appropriate. Before your first session, the practitioner will check in about your health and any concerns to ensure that Reiki is a safe and supportive option for you.
